Business Owner Connect Others To Soul Food Restaurants
Rene Couret grew up in Southern California to a very multi-cultural family. She was raised in a Southern family and her Ethnicity is a mixture of Caucasian, African, Creole, and Jamaican influence. Because of her mixed Ethnicity, she had a love for Soul Food and the rich aromatic history that it developed from.
When Rene lived in the Los Angeles area, she found many restaurant websites but none specifically geared toward soul food. It was shocking, because she knew she was in Los Angeles and there had to be a ton of soul food restaurants. The results were sad and in her findings she discovered that many soul food restaurants had opened and closed within months due to lack of advertising.
During Rene’s continued research, she also found a lack of soul food restaurants listings; then later she started networking with cities across the United States to get ideas on how to re-define the search for soul food restaurants.
In 2000, Rene started a soul food restaurant search-engine/directory for people to search for soul food restaurants in their area. From this, the Soul Food Connection was created, a directory that connects people with the soul food restaurant industry.
Since then, many websites have included soul food restaurant listing, but none specifically for soul food. Visit Rene’s website to learn more about soul food history and her soul food directory:

Rene Shares Her Memories of Her Grandmother Making Soul Food
Rene’s memories of her grandmother was when she would tell Rene to get her hands out of her cooking pot. Rene recalls her grandmother taking extreme offense to anyone who went into her kitchen while she was cooking. “I look back now and understand why. It was really important to her because cooking soul food was sacred. We pour our hearts and soul out making it and that is why it is called Soul Food,” said Rene.
