Does Your Cake Baking
Measure Up

Do you have good cake baking skills? Well, a good cake is only as good as the ingredients. Not only are using fresh ingredients important, how well you use those ingredients are equally important.

For example, if you’re making a cake from scratch, all dry ingredients such as flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda should be measured carefully and sifted to eliminate even the smallest lumps that may not appear visible.

This process also helps the cake turn out better. A well put together cake also include fresh ingredients and a cook that know how to follow a recipe to ensure a good quality cake.

I used to watch my Big Mama measure her ingredients then sift through a metal sifter before putting together her pound cake. She made sure she sifted dry ingredients twice and her pound cake always seam to turn out perfect.

Big Mama also knew the importance of using fresh ingredients. She always shopped the day before she did her baking.

Cleanliness is another key element in successful baking. Make sure supplies such as bowls, mixing beaters, spoons, measuring cups, and baking pans have been properly washed before using. Also make sure the area used for baking is clean and free of clutter.

A big mistake bakers make is not choosing the correct baking supplies, such as measuring cups and baking pans.

For accurate measuring, always use individual measuring cups instead of multi-purpose measuring cups especially for dry ingredients.

Individual measuring cups allow you to measure more accurately by leveling off assess ingredients. Also pre-set measuring spoons are better than regular kitchen spoons.

Again, it’s easier to level off measuring spoons. Measuring ingredients correctly is an important part of the cake baking process.

Baking pans are important and should be in good condition and the appropriate size pans should be used according to what the recipe specify. Using the wrong size pans will cause the cake to turn out less than perfect.

Whether you’re baking a cake for a special event or for a family meal, baking is an enjoyable experience and bring smiles to many faces. Just remember to be good to your cake and I promise your cake will turn out just right.
